The Latin Breed featuring Adalberto concert on May 12th was EXCELLENT!

L.E.G PROMOTIONS DOES IT AGAIN!

The people over at L.E.G. Promotions put on another great show! Bringing LATIN BREED featuring ADALBERTO to the valley was a great opportunity for Arizona Tejano fans to see some legends of the Tejano music industry. The band played many of the Latin Breed favorites you’ve come to know & love. ADALBERTO has a great voice and together with the LATIN BREED horns…..Hey! Hey!

Local band LA FAMILIA opened the show with a great set, playing many Tejano songs you’d be hard pressed to find other local bands playing. My Compadre, Compa Big Lou even got into the act by jumping up on stage and playing the “air” congas during “Que Metida de Pata”. LA FAMILIA features a 15 yr old drummer who is BAD. He even got to play with LATIN BREED on “Mala Cabeza”, and turned it OUT! It looked like ADALBERTO was very impressed.

All the guys in both bands exemplified the humbleness, humility, “down to earth”, accommodating attitude that I have come to recognize from many of even the biggest Tejano artist. They all stayed around a little bit after the show and just shot the breeze with anyone wanting to talk or get an autograph.

It’s just too bad not very many people took advantage of it. While the show was great, I can’t help but be personally disappointed that there weren’t more Tejano fans in the house. Rick Canez and all the people over at L.E.G. Promotions work very hard to bring the valley some much needed Tejano entertainment. No disrespect is intended toward acts such as Little Joe & Ruben Ramos (I’ll still go see them EVERY time I can), they come to the Valley quite often. But…when you get a chance to see the likes of LATIN BREED & ADALBERTO or LIBERTY BAND from the 1st show, acts that have never played the valley or haven’t done so in many, many years, we the Tejano fans must support that endeavor. We have to show Rick, the staff at LEG and the artist they bring in that Phoenix & the Valley of the Sun wants Tejano music, needs Tejano music, deserves Tejano music, but most importantly will SUPPORT Tejano music.

So, I put it out to all the Tejano fans in the Valley. If you like Tejano music, you must support it. Tell all your Tejano friends about the shows. Hell, even if you know someone who’s maybe not familiar with Tejano music…bring them too. Turn them on to Tejano music. Let’s make new fans. There is no reason why Phoenix, the 6th largest city in the country, with one of the largest Latino populations in the country can’t support Tejano music.

Tejano music is what we are. It is a hybrid, a mix and fusion of what we all are and what we have grown to know. It is a mix of the R&B that people my age (40ish) grew up on; the early Tejano/Chicano sounds and oldies our parents grew up on, and the Rancheras and Mariachi sounds our grandparents grew up on. It is dancing music, singing music and drinking music. It is Cumbias, Corridos and Tejano Swing. And
sometimes it’s straight up funk. It is what we are. Whether you call yourself a Mexican-American, Hispanic, Latino or Chicano, if you have ever strung up or taken a swing at a piñata, eaten nana’s fresh, home-made tortillas (right of the comal), gone to a party and brought home a “plato”, or been hit with a “chancla”, you know what I’m talking about and Tejano music will have something for you.
